As the most popular body style in Australia, it's little wonder there is an avalanche of fresh SUVs coming to local shores in 2024.
Not only can we expect minor updates to favourites like the Kia Sportage and Land Rover Discovery Sport, but there will be box-fresh version of the Hyundai Santa Fe and Mazda's all-new CX-80 to look forward to.
And that's not to mention the all-electric and hybrid SUVs that are quickly proliferating across the market!
Jeep is known as an SUV specialist brand, even before SUVs became the new hot thing.
And with hybrids and electrified models now becoming the norm, Jeep has launched its fuel-sipping Compass e-Hybrid model.
It is aimed at the likes of the Nissan Qashqai e-Power and Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV, the Compass e-Hybrid promises to combine 'go anywhere' capability with fuel-saving 48-volt mild-hybrid technology.

Chery's rebirth in the Australian market came with 2023's Omoda 5 and was followed by the Tiggo 7 Pro mid-size SUV.
But the third model to join Chery Australia's line-up is the Tiggo 8 Pro three-row SUV, which is aiming steal the thunder away from the Nissan X-Trail, Mitsubishi Outlander and Honda CR-V.

With a ground-up new design, the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe certainly won't be confused with the outgoing model.
Ditching the smooth, rounded lines of the past for a boxier, upright and downright rugged aesthetic, the new Santa Fe could very well lure buyers away from the top-selling Toyota Prado.

Originally thought to be called the Ioniq 7, it is now firming Hyundai's next EV will be dubbed the Ioniq 9. The all-electric SUV is yet to break cover in production guise at the time of writing, but we know it will share similarities with its Kia EV9 cousin.

The ID.4 mid-size SUV, Volkswagen Australia's first all-electric model, has been delayed again and won't touch down in local showrooms until late this year.
It will compete against the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Toyota bZ4X and others in the popular segment.
However, as an all-electric model, don't expect it to be as affordable as something like a Toyota RAV4 or Mazda CX-5.
With Volkswagen pushing into the electric space in 2024, Skoda will also follow with its own MEB-based model, the Enyaq.
As a mid-size SUV, the Skoda Enyaq will have a broad customer base, but key to its success will be pricing and spec - both of which are not confirmed at the time of writing.
However, its large 82kWh battery will enable a driving range of 570km, so range anxiety shouldn't be a problem.
If a Mercedes-Benz EQS wasn't quite fancy enough for you, the Maybach version should fit the bill.

The facelifted Kia Sorento now has pricing confirmed for Australia, starting from $50,680 before on-road costs in petrol 'S' guise or $53,680 for the diesel equivalent.
The two launch drivetrains remain the same, a 3.5-litre V6 making 200kW and 332Nm driving the front wheels and a 2.2-litre turbo-diesel good for 148kW but a beefier 440Nm of torque.
Kia Australia says hybrid and plug-in variants will follow in the first half of 2024, using the existing 1.6-litre petrol engine and making 169kW in hybrid form and 195kW in plug-in hybrid guise.

Kia's new mid-size electric SUV has been delayed several months due to what is believed to be some quality issues. It was originally slated to arrive in showrooms form June. Prices are expected to start from less than $60,000 and undercut the cheapest Tesla Model Y.
The EV5 has similar styling inside and out to the larger EV9 electric SUV. It has some cool features such as a centre console that can act as a bench seat when the car is parked.
The car will be built in China, which will ensure good supply for Australia.
Subaru's first electric, the Solterra, went on sale in March with prices starting at $69,990 before on-road costs for its base model, offered only in all-wheel drive. The Solterra was co-developed with the Toyota bZ4X.
With a 71.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Solterra is claimed to boast a WLTP-certified driving range of 414km, with total outputs of 160kW and 337Nm from its dual-motor setup.
‘X-Mode’ all-wheel-drive control software will differentiate it from the bZ4X, the brand says, while 210mm of ground clearance aims to keep the Subaru faithful to its practical adventure heritage.
Alongside a mid-life update for the GV80 large SUV, Genesis will for the 2024 model year introduce a Coupe version with a 'swoopy' rear in the same fashion as many of its German rivals like the BMW X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe.

Mazda is going all in on its range of large premium SUVs. The CX-70 is the fourth model in its growing Australian line-up.
It is a five seat version of the large CX-90 that was launched locally in 2023.
Mazda is likely to follow the same path as the seven-seat CX-90 and fit its new inline six-cylinder turbocharger diesel and petrol engines to the CX-70.
Porsche is closing orders for its petrol-powered Macan in May in preparation for the arrival of its all-electric SUV later this year.
This new electric Macan will be available with a variety of drivetrains producing up to 470kW/1130Nm and has a 100kWh battery.
This means range in excess of 500km regardless of variant, and a fast charging capability of 270kW for charging times from 10 to 80 per cent of just 21 minutes.
Though Toyota's first all-electric model was due to launch in 2023, delay after delay means saw it land in local showrooms in February 2024.
As a mid-size SUV-like model, the bZ4X will compete against the popular Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5.
Pricing starts from $66,000 for front-wheel drive models. Four-wheel drive is available and the bZ4X touts between 411-436km of driving range.
Chinese brand Chery is preparing to launch its focused Jaecoo sub-brand in Australia.
Leading the charge is the J7, a mid-size SUV that brings Range-Rover-like styling and a swag of high-end goodies as standard.
The J7 Australia will see is likely to be powered by the same 145kW/290Nm 1.6-litre turbo four-cylinder petrol engine found in the Tiggo 7 Pro.
Zeekr is a new Chinese car brand from the giant Geely group that also owns Volvo.
The X borrows much of its underpinnings from the Volvo XC40 and is expected to hit showrooms late in 2024.
Australians can expect dual motor performance delivering 315kW/543Nm and a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration in 3.7 seconds. It is expected to have a driving range up to 560km.
A whole new generation of MG's mid-size SUV is expected to land in Australia by September.
There will be a petrol price-leader with a more expensive plug-in hybrid also confirmed, likely packing a 20kWh-plus battery pack for 100km (or more) of EV-only driving range.
Expected outputs of 180kW and 570Nm should make the Sealion 6's life harder. As should the HS's new design in keeping with the smaller MG3's lead.

The ute is only one part of BYD’s hybrid expansion plans in 2024, with it also delivering a mid-size SUV.
This Toyota RAV4 rival sits above the Atto 3 in the brand’s Australian line-up and is known as the Sealion 6 locally. International names include Song Plus and Seal U. It is the first BYD to offer the aforementioned DM-i plug-in hybrid drivetrain in Australia.
Here, a 1.5-litre four-cylinder PHEV powertrain produces 145kW with a 100km electric driving range. Front- and all-wheel drive variants are on offer. A fully electric version, which exists in its Chinese home market, may also follow in the future.
