Best SUVs arriving in 2025

If you are in the market for a new SUV, you might want to wait a little bit to get a closer look at some of the new family- and urban-focused machines landing in 2025.

A host of new brands are launching in the coming year to take the fight to established players, but there will be something for everyone from small SUVs, to performance rides, family SUVs and on to luxury options.

Here's all that's confirmed to arrive in 2025.

01. BMW X3 – Q1

Big changes are coming to the BMW's popular X3 range in 2025.

The new X3 will be powered by a new mild-hybrid assisted petrol engine and be all-wheel drive only.

It will feature a heavily redesigned interior, new luxury items drawn from flagship models and refreshed exterior styling.

Two variants will be available from launch, a X3 20 and X3 50M.

02. MG ZS – Q1

MG ZS

The hybrid ZS snuck into the market just before the end of 2024, but we're still waiting for the petrol price leader.

It will come with refreshed styling, increased safety tech and interior quality.

Expect prices to rise significantly in a similar vein to the new MG3 hatchback.

MG will need to bring more value to back up the last smash hit ZS small SUV, though.

03. Skoda Kodiaq – Q1

Skoda Kodiaq

Skoda's practical seven-seat family SUV is back, headed our way at the start of 2025.

It has refreshed looks, with more curves and softer lines.

Expect a roomy cabin with plenty of space for the family and some plush and clever features, too.

Power will come from a 150kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine driving all four wheels.

04. Cupra Formentor – Q2

Cupra Formentor

The Volkswagen Group's sporty Spanish brand has had a stellar rise in Australia but needs new product to keep the ball rolling.

Enter the new Formentor SUV, a refreshed version of its most popular model.

It brings updated looks while the red-hot VZx variant has more potent performance and a drift mode.

A plug-in hybrid version is coming, which boosts an electric-only driving range of up to 100km.

05. GMC Yukon — Q2

Move over, Toyota LandCruiser, there's a new sheriff in town.

Measuring more than 5.3 metres long, the GMC Yukon is a vast SUV with a huge tow rating.

It packs a 6.2-litre V8 petrol developing 313kW and 624Nm driving all-four wheels through a 10-speed torque converter automatic.

Exclusively being converted to right-hand drive by Walkinshaw in Denali trim, the GMC Yukon wears a $169,900 (before on-road costs) price tag.

06. GWM Haval H6 – Q2

GWM's answer to the Toyota RAV4 is getting an update for 2025.

It will feature new exterior styling and improved interior tech.

The petrol version is expect to ditch the dual-clutch auto for a conventional nine-speed auto.

A plug-in hybrid version is on the way with a huge 35.4kWh battery delivering a driving range of up to 180km.

07. Kia Sportage – Q2

The Kia Sportage is getting a mid-life update.

Cosmetic changes are an evolution rather than a revolution to its styling.

Tech and cabin design has been boosted to match what is found in the flagship EV9 electric SUV.

There will be a choice of petrol and hybrid power, with the US-market scoring a new all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid.

08. Volkswagen Tiguan – Q2

The next-gen Tiguan mid-size SUV is due to hit showrooms after March, 2025.

Base versions have a familiar 110kW petrol engine driving the front wheels.

But the mid- and top-tier versions get a new 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that makes 150kW and 195kW, respectively.

Prices are expected to rise but so is the level of standard kit.

09. Lexus LBX Morizo RR – H1

Lexus has turned the dial all the way up with its new LBX Morizo RR.

The little luxury SUV has the heart of a GR Corolla with a bunch of performance parts such as a limited slip rear diff, large exhaust pipes with active sound, beefy brakes and a torque-splitting all-wheel drive set-up.

Priced from $76,490, before on-road costs, it is a limited edition, so get it while it's hot.

10. Suzuki Fronx – H1

Suzuki Fronx

The pint-sized Fronx is due to replace the outgoing Ignis is the Japanese brand's local line-up.

It will use a mild hybrid assisted petrol engine to drive the front wheels.

The Fronx could be the brand's cheapest model, undercutting the new Swift.

11. Volkswagen Tayron – Q4

The Volkswagen Tayron will replace the seven-seat Tiguan Allspace in the brand's local line-up next year.

It will be a similar size to the new Skoda Kodiaq and is expected to feature the same engine choices as the smaller Tiguan SUV. A plug-in hybrid option is a possibility further down the line.

12. Chery Tiggo 9 – H2

The Chery Tiggo 9 is headed our way in the second half of 2025.

The big SUV pairs a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and sizeable battery.

Chery claims it can drive up to 1400km before depleting the battery and emptying the fuel tank.

There is also a petrol-only version available, which fits a 195kW/400Nm turbo-petrol engine paired to an eight-speed auto driving the front wheels.

13. Jaecoo J8 – H2

Jaecoo is Chery's luxury arm and the J8 large SUV is mooted to join the mid-size J7 in its fledgling Australian line-up next year.

It is related to the more mainstream Chery Tiggo 9.

It is an all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid. Its petrol-electric combo is good for 451kW and 951Nm.

14. MG QS — 2025

There's a new model for every segment coming, said MG, and the clearest is the large SUV.

To be a true top-five seller in Australia, MG needs a seven-seat answer to the Toyota Kluger, Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Sorento. This is it.

Based on the China-market Roewe RX9 (a similar story to the new HS), we're promised it will be MG-ified before launching.
