Diesel not done for yet as Audi launches new A6 Avant with petrol and diesel options as a family alternative to jumped up SUVs like the BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and Audi Q7

Audi has revealed its new A6 wagon with no plug-in hybrid or fully-electric options in sight.
The full-size family wagon is available with a petrol or diesel engine, both with mild-hybrid assistance.
Both are 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engines, with the petrol making 150kW/340Nm and the diesel pushing out 150kW/400Nm.

The petrol is only available in front-wheel drive but the diesel can be had in front- and all-wheel drive layouts.
Audi claims the mild-hybrid tech can be used to drive the A6 in specific situations such as parking and manoeuvring and in slow moving traffic or when coasting.
Mild hybrids typically don’t use the small electric motor to drive the wheels, instead using it to power the starter motor and other electrical systems, helping to shave a little off the fuel use figure.
Audi said the petrol version drinks 7.1L/100km and the diesel uses 5.0L/100km or 5.1L/100km, depending on front- or all-wheel drive.
A third engine is also available without mild-hybrid tech — a beefy 3.0-litre V6 turbo-petrol engine that makes a chunky 270kW and 550Nm.
It drops the A6 Avant’s 0-100km/h sprint time to 4.7 seconds, down from 8.3 seconds in the other petrol variant and 7.9 seconds in the front-wheel drive diesel and 7.0 seconds in the all-wheel drive version.
The A6 Avant features a new design that Audi said improves its aerodynamics and makes it the slipperiest Audi wagon to date.
Inside there are plenty of hi-tech features with an 11.9-inch Audi digital driver cockpit and a 14.5-inch multimedia screen. A head-up display is optional.
The A6 Avant uses Android Automotive operation system for its multimedia. This means it is capable of over-the-air updates, just like a smartphone and has apps such as Spotify and YouTube.
It also has ChatGPT installed so customers can use the AI functionality with spoken prompts.
The Audi A6 Avant has been confirmed for Europe, but no word yet on whether it will make it Down Under.
