European car price slashed by $10,000: Last examples of current-gen Skoda Superb on run-out as larger wagon alternative to Toyota Camry, Mazda6, Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accord

Skoda has announced significant saving on its run-out Superb range before the end of the year. 

From now until the end of November, the Superb Sportline 206TSI is $10,000 cheaper for both sedan ($61,990 drive-away) and wagon ($63,990 drive-away). 

In the dwindling large and medium car segments, the current Superb bucks the trend with 80 per cent of buyers preferring the wagon body, while the smaller Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata and Honda Accord are sedan-only.

The Mazda6 and new Skoda Octavia are the few wagon hold-outs, for now. 

“With over 80 per cent of sales favouring the Superb wagon, this is limited-time run-out value for the fans ahead of the all-new generation arriving next year,” said Skoda Acting Managing Director Kieran Merrigan.

For the Superb’s new drive-away price, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder developing peak power and torque outputs of 206kW and 350Nm drives all four wheels via a seven-speed ‘wet’ dual-clutch automatic. 

Outside, the Sportline is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights, keyless entry and a hands-free power tailgate.

A mix of ‘Suedia’ and leather upholstery covers the power-adjust front seats with two-position memory. The boot ranges from 620L (sedan) to 650L (wagon) in size. 

The Superb’s front and rear outboard seats are heated, there’s a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display, wireless smartphone charging and a 9.2-inch multimedia touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. 

Adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-keep assist, auto parking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert round out the safety suite. 

So far this year Skoda has sold 144 Superbs, so if it manages to clear the remaining 135 cars by December 31 it will nearly double the figures before the new generation Superb arrives in Australia in the second or third quarter of next year.

Skoda Superb Sportline 4x4

Based on the overhauled VW Group MQB Evo with various chassis enhancements, the next Superb keeps the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol but in lower emissions guise producing 195kW and 400Nm.

A new technology suite, fresh interior and exterior design finish the package. Skoda has confirmed that Super will remain in both sedan — or liftback, strictly speaking — and wagon body styles.
