Mini confirms 2024 Aceman electric SUV for Australia: Pint-sized Chinese-built EV on the way as a premium alternative to BYD Atto 3 and MG4

Mini has confirmed its newest electric car will arrive in Australia before the end of the year.

Dubbed the Aceman, the little SUV will be electric-only and is sized in between the bigger Countryman SUV and smaller Cooper hatchback.

It will be available with two battery options: a 42.5kWh unit that provides a driving range of up to 310km and a circa-54kWh battery that can be driven up to 406km between charges.

Both variants are powered by a single electric motor that makes 135kW and 290Nm when paired with the smaller battery and 160kW and 330Nm when matched to the larger battery.

The Aceman isn’t overly fast, with the more powerful version completing the benchmark 0-100km/h sprint in 7.1 seconds and the base version hitting the mark in 7.9 seconds.

The Aceman sits between the Cooper hatch and Countryman SUV in size.

It’s not the fastest charging electric car either. Both variants can accept 11kW via an AC charger and either 75kW or 95kW depending on specification when hooked up to a DC fast charger.

Mini claims the Aceman can fill its battery from 10-80 per cent in 30 minutes when connected to a DC charger.

Mini says the Aceman maintains the brand’s typical fun to drive sporty character. This is achieved through precise suspension dampers that reduces body roll and improves steering precision.

There is no mistaking the Aceman for anything but a Mini with its front grille design, LED headlights and silhouette reminiscent of the brand’s cars through the decades.

Inside, Mini claims the Aceman has ample shoulder and legroom despite its small dimensions and a panoramic sunroof give the cabin an airy feel.

Mini said the Aceman comes fitted with plenty of sustainable material including door trim made of recycled polyester and vegan leather upholstery on the seats.

There is a distinct tech focus, too. Mini has added virtual assistance that responds to “Hey Mini” and can control various vehicle functions.

A circular OLED central multimedia screen provides crisp readouts as does the digital driver’s display.

Like the MG4 and BYD Atto 3, the Aceman will be built in China, which could be positive for the affordability of Mini's latest small SUV.
