Popular family SUV and sedan models recalled

2022 Hyundai i30 N sedan

Hyundai has recalled 4781 Kona N SUVs and i30 N sedans built between 2020 and 2023 due to a manufacturing defect affecting the models fuel pumps.

216 examples of the G70 sedan, built between 2017 and 2023, from Hyundai’s luxury sub-brand Genesis have also been impacted.

A recall notice issued by the Australian government’s vehicle recall regulator reads: “Due to a manufacturing defect, the fuel control valve in the high-pressure fuel pump could allow excess fuel to enter the pump.

"If this occurs, the engine could stall resulting in a sudden loss of motive power whilst driving.”

In extreme cases, the notice said: “A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving increases the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and other road users.”

Owners are encouraged to check their VIN number here to see if their vehicle is impacted.

Alternatively, Hyundai and Genesis will contact affected owners in writing to arrange a time to have their fuel pump inspected and replaced if required, free of charge.
