Skoda teases all-new hatchback to battle i30 and Corolla

The Vision RS-derived hatch will debut before the end of the year

Skoda has released its first teaser image of an all-new hatchback that will be revealed in full by the end of the year.

The hatchback, built on the VW Group’s MQB platform, is the direct descendent of Skoda's Vision RS concept, and will be pitched into a hugely competitive segment currently dominated by the Hyundai i30, Kia Cerato, Toyota Corolla, Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf.

The silhouette reveals little for now, but Skoda is promising “distinctive and dynamic design” for its five-door hatchback. It’s also the very first Skoda to tap into the MQB platform, and the brand’s bosses are promising Skoda-levels of interior space and innovation.

Oh, and the preview image is labelled the "Skoda Spaceback", which could be a little hint as to what the new model will be partly called, given Spaceback is a moniker attached to several other Skoda models.

Exactly what else to expect remains a mystery, but watch this space for more information as it is revealed.
