The Sealion 7 is the flagship in BYD's mid-size electric SUV range, delivering oodles of grunt from its twin-motor, AWD setup.

The Performance will produce 390kW and a sizeable 690Nm, meaning a sprint to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds.

It list at $63,990, before on-road costs, and it differentiates itself from the cheaper Premium with 20-inch alloys, a heated steering wheel and heating for backseat riders.

Otherwise, the spec is largely the same, including LED lighting, a panoramic glass roof, a powered boot, leather seats (heated and ventilated up front) a leather steering wheel, and dual-zone climate. Finally, the tech includes a 15.6-inch rotating central touchscreen with Apple CarPay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker stereo, a 10.25-inch driver display and a head-up display, as well as wireless device charging.

Both Sealion 7 models share the same 82.56kWh battery, and the Premium will travel a claimed 456kms between charges on the WLTP cycle. It is set up for 150kW DC and 11kW AC charging.
