The Sport Premium is the top-spec Elantra, starting from $31,490 for the six-speed manual, or $33,990 for the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
It's priced $2500 above the lower-spec Elantra Sport, and arrives with a leather interior, heated sport seats (power-adjustable for the driver), a d-shaped steering wheel, aggressive 18-inch alloy wheels clad in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, ‘smart key’ keyless entry with push-button start, LED front lighting with high-beam assist, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with DAB+, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto support as well as bluetooth connectivity, sat-nav and a reversing camera.
Other big-ticket specification items include a sunroof, a Qi wireless charging pad, front parking sensors and a luggage net in the boot.
The Elantra faces off in the affordable sedan segment against the Honda Civic, Subaru Impreza and Kia Cerato.
The Elantra Sport Premium is powered by a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine producing 150kW/256Nm. The engine has a claimed/combined fuel consumption figure of 7.0L/100km in automatic form, and 7.8L/100km in manual form.
All Elantras take 91RON unleaded petrol and have 50L tanks.
On the safety front, the Elantra Sport Premium has six airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, three top-tether points and two ISOFIX child-seat mounting anchors on the rear row.
Standard active safety includes auto emergency braking (AEB), lane keep assist (LKAS) with lane departure warning (LDW), blind spot monitoring (BSM), and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA). The Elantra carries a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating.
Due to the lack of a radar system, the Sport Premium does not have pedestrian detection or active cruise.
All Elantras are covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, and require servicing every 12 months or 15,000kms. They are also covered by Hyundai's capped servicing program.
