Suzuki Swift Hybrid Plus 2024 review: snapshot

The sixth-generation Swift supermini since 1983, the latest version is the first to introduce mild-hybrid electrification across the range.

Based on the same 'Heartect' platform as its 2017 predecessor, it features a slightly longer body but same-sized wheelbase, and also boasts a bit more luggage capacity than before.

Sitting in the middle, or the sweet spot of the range, the Hybrid Plus is powered by a 1.2-litre mild hybrid three-cylinder petrol engine, making 61kW at 5700rpm and 112Nm at 4500rpm.

The mild-hybrid tech consists of an integrated starter generator (ISG), which is said to be like an electric motor essentially, kicking in an extra 2.3kW and 60Nm. There’s also a 12-volt lithium-ion battery underneath the passenger compartment that is replenished through regenerative braking kinetic energy.

A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) auto is the sole transmission on offer, returning an impressive 4.0L/100km and 80g/km of carbon-dioxide emissions – though 95 RON premium unleaded is a must.

The base Hybrid grade features AEB, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, driver-drowsiness warning, traffic-sign recognition, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors, automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, LED headlights, keyless entry and start, a 9.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, digital radio, heated mirrors, power windows and air-conditioning.

This Hybrid Plus adds rear cross-traffic alert, a blind-spot monitor, alloy wheels, heated front seats, a leather-sheathed steering wheel, privacy glass, multiple USB ports and a driver’s seat-height adjuster.

Going Hybrid Plus is probably worth the extra spend over the Hybrid CVT – if you can afford it.

Note, though, only a tyre-inflation kit is fitted. If you want a spare wheel, you’ll need to pay extra – as in all of the latest-gen Swifts.
