The mid-rung of the non-performance Golf ladder, the Style is most closely aligned with the previous Highline trim level.
At $43,690, it’s quite a price step up from the Life entry-level car. But you do get extra gear like the tri-zone climate control, 18-inch alloys and a bigger multimedia screen.
The new Golf line-up represents a mild facelift and is identifiable by the revised front and rear bumpers and lighting.

The official fuel consumption figure is 6.3 litres per 100km, giving the car a decent range with its 50-litre fuel tank.
Safety is well covered off, including autonomous emergency braking, and the usual raft of driver aids. There’s also a total of nine airbags now, including a front centre bag to prevent head clashes in a side impact crash.
Servicing is every 12 months or 15,000km and there will be capped-price servicing offered by VW.
