The second dedicated model to come from BMW’s M division couldn’t be more different from the sleek M1 supercar of the late 1970s - the BMW XM is a behemoth of a plug-in hybrid SUV.
The all-wheel drive XM comes with a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 under the bonnet that puts out (with help from its electric motor) 480kW and 800Nm to help haul its more-than 2700kg self to 100km/h in just 4.3 seconds.
Owning a BMW XM is less straightforward, mostly due to the required outlay of more than $300,000 to pick one up.
