Best ute deals will come to those who wait

If you're in the market to buy a new ute, you may want to hold off for a moment.

Waiting even just a few weeks could save you thousands of dollars on a run-out model, or you could end up getting a just-released ute with the latest safety and technology at the start of its 10-year lifecycle. 

A perfect storm is brewing to create super-sharp deals on superseded utes as some of the biggest brands in the business get ready to release all-new or heavily updated models.

Following the recent release of the overhauled Mitsubishi Triton, the first all-new Nissan Navara in 10 years arrives later this month.

By July we will start to see the first shipments of the facelifted Ford Ranger and Mazda BT-50.

By late September or early October, an all-new version of Australia's top-selling workhorse for more than three decades, the Toyota HiLux, is due.

The superseded models will only get cheaper as the new models get closer.

The arrival of all this fresh metal so close together means these brands will be desperate to clear old stock, and the superseded models will only get cheaper as the new models get closer.

Furthermore, anyone without a new pick-up, such as the Holden Colorado or Volkswagen Amarok, will have to sharpen their prices to stay in the game.

There is one more reason to wait. June is by far the biggest month of the year for ute sales, as self-employed tradies and small businesses look to spend some cash before the end of the financial year.

Ute buyers customarily buy big in June, but with so many new models around the corner, this year will be bigger than ever.
