Holden Barina 2006: Cracked head

Asked by Donna and Bruce Moore

Last year we bought a 2006 Holden Barina from a private owner who had owned it from new, had all the services done at the dealer, had only done 12,000 km, and seemed perfect. In the last few weeks the vehicle started to use water and it was found to have a cracked head. In our mechanic's opinion, this should not have happened as the vehicle has only done 24,000 km. We feel that this could have been a fault from new. Should we seek compensation from Holden?

No. It ran perfectly for five or six years before giving trouble, so I don't think you can blame Holden. Has the coolant been changed in the time since it left the factory, has it been overheated at any time, they're questions I would want answered before trying to find someone to blame.
