Ask Smithy Xtra Brake shudder Falcon EL

Asked by Tim McQueen

Having read the complaints about brake shudder on Falcons I thought I?d tell you about my EL Falcon, which also shuddered under braking. I did all the usual things including fitting new rotors, pads and wheel bearings, but nothing improved until a mechanic went through the front-end and found that the stub axle on one side was not quite right. This was replaced and the problem was solved. It then drove like an absolute dream until I sold it a few years later.

There are a number of factors that could contribute to causing brake shudder, and you’ve highlighted another one. Finding the cause on an individual car can be frustrating.
