Ford Escape 2004: Split exhaust manifold

Asked by Peter Brown

My Ford dealer thinks my 2004 Ford Escape V6 has a split front exhaust manifold. Another mechanic reckons it may have split when my wife went through deep puddle of water. Is this a common problem with this make? New ones cost $1500 plus labour, do you know if it can be successfully welded?

It’s quite possible that the manifold was cracked when your wife drove into deep water, that’s not unusual. It should be able to be welded, but you need to remove it and inspect it to know for sure.
