Ford Escape 2005: Thermo fan stays on?

Asked by Joseph Persin.

The thermo fan on my 2005 Ford Escape comes first thing in the morning when the car is started after sitting all night and stays on while the engine is running. The temperature is showing normal. What do you think is wrong?

I’d be checking the temperature sensor/switch that controls the fan’s operation. It should be coming on when the temperature rises and go off again when it falls, but it would seem it could be stuck on.
