Ask Smithy Xtra incorrect fuel gauge
Asked by Chris.
After replacing the fuel pump in my VTII V6 Commodore I notice that there is still 10 litres left in the tank when the gauge is on empty. Is there any way of calibrating the gauge?
Answered by CarsGuide
10 May 2011It’s normal practice for carmakers to leave a small reserve in the fuel tank when the gauge indicates that the tank is empty so you don’t completely run out of fuel before you get to a service station. If you really wanted to have the gauge recalibrated take it to an automotive instrument maker.
