Nissan Patrol 2004: Is petrol or diesel better?

Asked by Brandan Byron

I'm buying a 4WD Toyota Landcruiser or Nissan Patrol priced between $9000 and $15,000 and would like to know whether it should be petrol or diesel. I have found a lot with dual-fuel for around $11,000 with mid-200,000 km and diesels with around 350,000 km plus. Which is the better buy?

You’re buying a high mileage car so be careful to check the condition of the engine and driveline and walk away if there’s any suspicion they’re close to worn out. There’s little difference between the Landcruiser and the Patrol, but avoid the 3.0-litre turbo diesel Patrol as it has engine issues.
