My current model Subaru Liberty GT requires 95-octane fuel as per the handbook. I have asked two different dealerships if it is OK to use E10 fuel which is 95-octane, but both have said that Subaru does not recommend using the ethanol blend fuel, with one commenting that the concern was that there might be a more than 10 percent of ethanol in the fuel. Can E10 be relied on to have the correct percentage of ethanol, and secondly, if it does, is it safe to use it in the Liberty GT?

18 Jan 2011Yes, you can rely on E10 to have the correct level of ethanol. Subaru’s advice is that the 2004-2006 Liberty GT should not use E10, it needs a higher octane rating, but yours could, providing you use fuel of the recommended octane rating.
