I purchased a 2007 Corolla in July 2017. Had the service completed on time (6 months post purchase) and was advised that the left rear brake caliper was leaking large amounts of fluid and the pads were almost shot. I had no issues with braking. Is it normal to have no brake problems when driving, yet have such a serious problem? How long could the caliper be leaking for before it caused a problem? Could I have purchased the car with this problem? Have you heard of insurance companies covering this issue? Would this problem be covered by capped price service warranty?

9 Mar 2018I would expect that you would feel the brakes were spongy if a caliper was leaking significant amounts of fluid. I doubt it was leaking when you bought the car, as I’m sure the brakes would have been affected.
