Broken door handle on E250

Asked by Eddie Li

A few weeks ago the right-hand door handle on my 2011 Mercedes-Benz E250 2-door coupe broke and I cannot open my door at all. To open the door I have to lower the electric window and open it from the inside. To my horror the dealer quoted me a cost of $4600 to repair it, and because the car is three years and nine months old it would not be covered under the standard manufacturer warranty. What are my alternatives? Can I fix it without going to the dealer? Would I be successful if I was to pursue a claim with Mercedes?

I can't say what your chances of success would be if you were to pursue a claim against Mercedes, but as the car is just out of warranty I would give it a shot. If you don't want to do that you could take it to an independent Mercedes repairer and I'm sure you would save a lot of money on the deal.
