Asked by Alan Wylie
I have a 2005 Nissan Patrol that has a bubbled dash, which I believe from research I have done is a common problem in Patrols. I understand that Nissan has been quietly replacing dashboards for a number of years without advertising the fact. After contacting Nissan and having our dashboard inspected I was advised that Nissan would replace the dashboard, but that I would have to pay the $480 labour costs. As Nissan has agreed that the dashboard warrants replacing I feel I should not be out of pocket when the dashboards are clearly defective, irrespective of the age of the car. Nissan is telling us that they would replace the dashboard out of goodwill and will not budge on the labour costs. How much goodwill can they have when they did not bother to notify Nissan Patrol owners of the problem at all? What are your thoughts on our problem?

24 Aug 2012What you have been offered is a standard deal most carmakers offer customers with older cars like yours. While you are clearly incensed at Nissan's failure to replace the dashboard free of charge, and I can fully understand that, you're best to accept the offer and get on with life.
