    Toyota Camry 2006: When do the rear trailing arm bushes need to be replaced?

    When having the 45,000 km service done on my wife's 2006 Camry at a non-Toyota service centre I received a phone call informing me that the rubber bushes in the rear trailing arm were worn and needed to be replaced with harder bushes as this is a common problem with the Camry. I was invited me to look at the bushes while the car was still on the hoist and the mechanic showed me what the problem was with movement in the bush. I took the car back to the Toyota service centre only to be told by them that movement in the rear bushes was normal and that they did not need to be replaced. Toyota also put the car on the hoist along with a new Camry and two older cars all had movement in the bushes. I asked the dealer what the tolerances were in the bushes, only to be told that they didn't know. Can you tell me who is telling me the truth?

    Without seeing the parts it's hard to comment on the condition of the bushes, but I think you could take the advice of the dealer in this matter. The dealer has demonstrated to you that the movement is normal, and I think you could assume they would also be keen to replace the bushes themselves if they need replacing.
