Toyota Camry 1997: Puff of smoke when cold starting

I HAVE owned a 1997 four-cylinder Toyota Camry from new. It has travelled 94,000km, drives well and has been serviced every 10,000km. When I start it in the morning, there is a puff of blue/grey smoke that lasts for 2-3 seconds with a slightly oily smell. I never have to top the oil up between services. Do you recommend any additives such as Wynns Stop Smoke?

15 Apr 2004I HAVEN'T had any experience with the additives, so I can't recommend them, but they wouldn't do any harm. The cause of the smoke is likely to be worn valve stem seals, which allow the oil to run down the valve stems and into the cylinders while the car is sitting overnight. The puff of smoke is the oil being burned when you start up. Try the additives, but think about getting the valve stem seals replaced as a long-term solution.
