The lifters in my 2012 Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport 1.8-litre dual VVT-I engine are very noisy during start-up and the engine makes a rough rattling noise for a few minutes no matter at what temperature during the day. This normally happens after the car has been sitting for a couple of hours whether in the garage or outside at the car park. It gets quieter after about 5-10 minutes from cold start. Is this noise normal for a brand new car?

1 Mar 2013No, it isn't normal. You should take your car to the dealer and have them investigate it. Leave it with them overnight if necessary and even be with them when they start it, so you can point out to them the noise that you are concerned about.
