Door locking Golf out of warranty

Asked by Tony Toledo

My 2007 VW Golf is just out of warranty, but there has been an intermittent fault with one of the door locks that dealers have been unable to trace. The lock has now failed and the door is deadlocked, requiring a new lock. VW have said that it will not honour the repair, which will cost $300 plus labour to fit, as it is now out of warranty. Has anyone else had a problem with door locks on any VW model as I believe there is a design issue with then that prevents them from operating in warmer climates?

We haven’t had any reports of failures of the door locks you mention, but I would appeal to VW to reconsider its decision. You have reported a problem with the door lock, presumably that was while it was under warranty, so you have grounds to claim it should have been fixed under warranty.
