What is causing the drivetrain to backlash in my '05 Ford Territory?

I'm in possession of a 2005 Ford Territory AWD Ghia with a severe backlash emanating from the drivetrain on take off. Only on severe (quick take offs) that the backlash occurs, otherwise the vehicle drives fine with no vibration/other noises. All the front/rear diff bushes, engine/trans mounts, other suspension bushes and centre bearing appear fine. I've been informed it may be the transfer or a CV. Other than going to a specialist in the city what can I look for or do myself to determine if the transfer or a CV is at fault. Or should I be looking elsewhere?

27 Oct 2017You could visually check the transfer case and CV joints, but I doubt you’ll see anything that might tell there’s a problem with them. It could also be a diff. Get it to a specialist mechanic and have them check it for you.
