I bought a brand new 2012 VW Golf GTI and have done 60,000 km in it. I've only ever used 98-octane Premium fuel and the engine has failed. The dealer has had my car for five weeks and it refusing to touch it until we pay $1000 for a diagnostic check. Is this normal?
Answered by CarsGuide
12 Aug 2016It is increasingly normal and many dealers are asking to be paid up front before doing any diagnostic work. I don't agree with the practice, I think they should do the work before charging for it. The diagnostic work has to be done to determine what has caused the engine problem, so there's no getting around it.
