What's a good mid-sized first car for $20,000

Asked by Willis

I’m searching for a first car and my budget is $20,000 max. I don’t want a tiny hatchback that everyone seems to be driving now; I want a large sedan or SUV. I'd like it to be good city car in small places, but it also has to be able to take the corners of country roads when I go looking for waves. I would hope my car has a fairly nice interior as well. So far I have been looking at a Holden Commodore SV6, but I’m not sold because of the high price even when buying second hand. What would you suggest?

It comes down to the age of the car. A 2010 VE SV6 could be bought for less than $20,000 and it will do everything you want. If you want a later model then perhaps look for a less expensive model. A regular Commodore will do everything you want, it just won’t have the badges.
