A couple of months ago, I bought a new 2010 model Hyundai 2.0- litre i30 SLX. Right from the start, I have experienced high levels of bounciness and a lot of swaying over the slightest of bumps. The first thing I did was to check the tyre pressures and even after correcting them it was the same. I also have a 1997 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 ES, which is quite similar, and I was able to compare the level of bounciness as soon as I left the showroom with my new Hyundai. My decision to get the Hyundai i30 was largely based on the string of awards that that model had earned in Australia and combined with the impressive interior, competitive pricing and lack of negative media comments it seemed like a good choice. When I contacted my salesman and service manager for Hyundai about this issue they claimed that the car was still new and to give it some time to 'settle in'. I just had my first 1000 km service done recently and commented that it was still bouncy and got them to drive it. They now say that it is the normal for that car. I would like to know if you have come across any other similar complaints regarding this, or is it is just mine. As I have had no reasonable or satisfactory answer from the sales or service personnel it seems I will have to take it further.

19 Aug 2010We haven't had any other reports of a problem with the ride of the i30, but perhaps other owners could let us know of their experience with the car. In the meantime I would suggest you take another one for a test drive, perhaps at another dealer, and compare it with yours. That way you should be able to determine if yours is the same or not, which would give you an accurate assessment of whether there is a problem or not. I would also consider taking your car to a suspension specialist and have them do an independent assessment on it.
