How do I get Kia to renegotiate a car's warranty?

Asked by Margo

I purchased a 2014 Kia Koup two months ago. I needed to get an issue checked under warranty and discovered that I only had 18 months instead of three and a half years left on it. When buying the car the paperwork states that all cars purchased after 1st October 2014 have seven-year warranty. All the paperwork including the pre-delivery inspection, the ownership info at the front of the brand new 2014 warranty manual, the services extending to 168 months, which equates to seven years and the pre-delivery advice, which is dated mid October indicated the vehicle had the balance of 7-year warranty. This is misleading and deceptive. Nowhere on the paperwork does it state that the warranty starts from the delivery date which is down as 30 September, and is in fact five years except in the fine print on the Kia website. Strangely this is only one day before the new seven-year warranty would have started. I now realise that this September/October crossover is a grey area, but it is blatantly confusing and misleading. I have contacted the original dealer and Kia Motors and neither one, particularly Kia, is even slightly interested. Is there anything I can do?

It’s an unusual situation, so I would try to negotiate with Kia and appeal to their good will to adjust the warranty for you.
