Kia Cerato 2014: Central locking problems

Asked by Ang

I have an issue with the central locking on my 2014 Kia Cerato. Intermittently, upon depressing the driver’s door lock button with the car fully closed the car will lock and then unlock itself. This issue has been raised with the service department at two separate Kia dealerships, one wasn't willing to accept the problem, the other can't fault or replicate the issue. I've managed to capture it on video once only, and believe it to be a safety issue due to the fact once inside the car the lock button on key fob can't be utilized, and when you lock a door you have the right to expect it to stay locked. When I picked my car up last time (from the partner dealership) they suggested contacting Kia directly for an alternative, but all they can suggest is to try another dealership. As the issue is intermittent, I believe the closest I will get to showing them the problem is by videoing it. Do you have any suggestions?

We contacted Kia seeking advice and were told: “This was not a known issue. Intermittent issues are the hardest to find but the fact that there is a video will certainly help. Our tech guys think that it sounds like it could be the driver’s door actuator or the lock assembly if it is only occurring on the driver’s door. If all of the doors are unlocking when the door lock switch is activated then it could be a switch assembly.” The people at Kia would like to see your video, and get your contact details along with the car’s VIN. If you could do that they have said they would work with the dealer to resolve the problem.
