Kia Cerato 2015: Ticking sound when engine starts

Asked by Jason

I’m having a lot of trouble starting my 2015 Kia Cerato in the mornings, even though it’s parked in the garage. It makes a ticking sound before the engine starts and I have to turn the key in the ignition a couple of times and pump the accelerator every time for it to properly run. Can you please advise and help?

The clicking sound could be a sign of a weak battery, which is having difficulty coping with the cold weather. Don’t pump the accelerator; that does nothing on a fuel-injected car. Have the battery tested.
