For over a year oil has been getting into the water in the engine in my 1999 Mazda Bravo DC turbodiesel ute. Eventually the radiator and the overflow bottle becomes so clogged with oil that the engine overheats to a point that in 2009 we blew the engine up The mechanics we have used have had no idea what was wrong with it and then we were recommended to take the care to a certain mechanic who rebuilt the whole top-end of the engine but this did not get rid of the original problem. We have taken the car back to them several times and they are sure that the top end has been rebuilt properly and they do not know why the oil is getting into the water. They have suggested that we now get the bottom-end rebuilt, but do not know if this will fix the problem. Can you help?

3 Feb 2011From what you have told us it would seem that it’s not the engine itself, the top-end has been rebuilt without solving the problem, and rebuilding the bottom-end is unlikely to fix it either. I would be looking at the places where oil and coolant could interchange, such as the intercooler, turbo etc.
