Mazda CX-7 2011: Fuel consumption
Asked by Rob Garven
I was getting about 600 km from a tank of E10 fuel when I bought my 2011 Mazda CX7, which equated to about 11 L/100 km. Prior to the 20,000 km service I noticed the fuel consumption increase and now I am lucky to get 300 km out of a tank of fuel, with consumption now at about 19 L/100 km. My dealer says that this is normal when the specs say I should get about 10-11 L/100 km. I would not have bought the car if the fuel consumption were going to be so high? Where do I go now?

18 Jan 2013Straight back to your dealer is where. But before you do get your facts straight and run a fuel consumption test so you know exactly what the consumption is. Now, the specs you quote are I'm guessing the official figures, if they are they not real life figures, but the results of a laboratory test done under strict conditions. You won't necessarily get the same consumption, but you should be able to get somewhere close. Based on the figures you have supplied you're not, so you have grounds to complain and ask the dealer to check the car over, even run a consumption test himself.
