My sister has been told the auto gearbox in her VW Golf needs to be replaced and will cost her $11,000. The car is just four years old and has just clicked over 100,000 km, and is just out of warranty. She can't afford a new gearbox, and she's not keen on a reconditioned one, as she is worried the same thing could happen again. What can she do?

19 Jul 2010Take it to an auto transmission specialist for an opinion and quote to rebuild it. You really shouldn’t have any trouble with a rebuilt gearbox if an experienced auto trans mechanic has done it.
