Like Frank Horgan (Carsguide 2/12/11) I too have experienced limp home mode in my 2007 Nissan Pathfinder R51 auto diesel. Without warning and while crossing a busy road with a ute fast approaching with horn blaring, it is not limp home, but possible hospital emergency ward that is your destination. This was quite a frightening experience, I can assure you, made worse with three grandchildren on board. The dealer's first diagnosis was a regulating valve in the injection pump, but a reoccurrence 170 km later meant another limp home on the back of a tow truck. Further investigation indicated loose connections in the wiring harness, and so far after 500 km it has not reoccurred. Nissan assisted on the first repair with 50 per cent parts cost, and the second repair was at the dealer's expense. I must say they have been very good with their efforts, and I would suggest Frank Horgan contact his dealer for a resolution.

15 Dec 2011It's good to hear that you have got a successful outcome. As you say Frank Horgan should consult his dealer rather than putting up with what is clearly a potentially dangerous situation.
