My 2010 model Nissan Patrol ST has had a really bad engine knock ever since I bought it. It only happens when it's cold. I go to take off in the morning and it knocks really badly until the engine temperature gets to halfway. Nissan said that is normal and that all the 3.0-litre turbo-diesels do it, and that it was not covered under warranty. At that time I was fuming and I don't know what to do now.

25 Jul 2012Yours is not an unusual problem, and it's not restricted to Patrols. The Navara does it, and so too does the Toyota Hilux. Toyota reprogrammed the Hilux to fix it, and while that works, we know of one where it came back soon after. Nissan doesn't appear to have a fix for it, and independent Nissan specialists usually replace the injectors in the hope of fixing it. One suggested that you should take your truck to a diesel engine expert and have them check it for you.
