My 2004 Toyota Camry Sportivo is in immaculate condition, except for the clear coat on the rear spoiler, which has begun to bubble and peel. I bought the car new and it has always been garaged at home. A panel beater has told me that the paint is faulty and should not be doing this. I asked Toyota to re-paint the spoiler and was told to take to a dealer for an assessment. The dealer took pictures and sent in a report, but Toyota denied my claim and said it was out of warranty. I know the car is out of warranty, but my point is that the paintwork is faulty. Do you think I am being unreasonable? What can I do next? Can you help?

21 Sep 2012It's not unusual for the clear coat to peal off plastic parts like your spoiler. The technology for painting plastic parts wasn't as well developed back when your car was built as it is now. While it is frustrating the car is now eight years old, and I doubt that you will get anywhere with this issue. If you want to pursue it get a report from an independent paint specialist such as Graeme Cuthbert (0422 444 335) and consider lodging a claim through the courts.
