Peugeot Runaround

Asked by Sharon Gilmore

I BOUGHT a 20-month-old Peugeot 206CC last year with 14,000km on the odometer. When I had it serviced six months later I reported a miss at idle. The car has now been back to my Peugeot dealer four times to try to fix the problem. They changed the coil and said, ``That's as good as it gets'', that the older model does not run as smoothly as the newer models. I phoned another dealer and was told that was not the case, and that I should try the customer service hotline. I did and they told me the dealer had done all they could. The car has now done 24,000km and the warranty is about to run out. I am still not satisfied and my little convertible, which was to have been my pride and joy, has turned sour.

YOU'VE been given the runaround. Take it to the other dealer you phoned and ask for an appraisal of what the problem could be. That way you can talk to Peugeot Customer Service with more authority. Don't worry that the warranty is about to run out. Companies have a responsibility under fair trading laws to support products where it is shown they are faulty, irrespective of the warranty.
