Nissan Patrol 2003: 4.2-litre petrol cracked cylinder head

Asked by Keith Elphick

I HAVE noticed with interest the letters about cracked pistons with the Nissan Patrol 3-litre turbo diesel. My 4.8-litre petrol-engined 2003 Patrol cracked a cylinder head with 50,000km on it and 17 days after the warranty ran out. After a lot of negotiation with Nissan I was offered $2300 out of a total bill of just over $6000. The easy way out was to accept the offer, which I did.

I'M GUESSING Nissan covered the cost of the parts and you paid the labour, which is the normal deal with most companies once the warranty expires. Most people accept the offer for the same reason you did -- it's the easiest thing to do.
