MY 2005 Nissan Pulsar sedan 1.8 automatic has been going well, but I have always had a feeling that it is not giving me the best fuel economy. As soon as I fill the tank the fuel gauge is on 3/4 within 30km or so. I am unaware of how I can precisely check the actual mileage. Do you know why this would be or if there have been other Pulsar drivers who have complained?

28 Nov 2008The fuel gauge is an indicator of how much fuel is in the tank, but shouldn't be taken too seriously. It's there so you don't run out of petrol. Checking your fuel economy is easy. Simply fill your tank and reset your trip meter, then drive the car for a week or so until it needs refilling, refill it and record the distance you've driven. Divide the kilometres driven by the litres needed to refill the tank and you have your economy in km/litre.
