I am looking for a 5-star ANCAP rated manual car for my learner driver son that will serve him well as a P-plater and beyond. I was looking at a Ford Focus, but I have heard it has quality issues (although is this just in the auto), a 2012 or so Mazda3, and a 2013 Hyundai i30 Active. Then there is the Mitsubishi Lancer and the VW Golf. My budget is around about $12-$14,000. Can you please advise?

18 Mar 2016I wouldn’t recommend the Focus or the Golf, European is not the way to go. The best choices are the Mazda3, Mitsubishi Lancer and the Hyundai i30.
