Mini Cooper 2002: Damp and musty smell

Asked by Eddy Jurie

I drive a 2002 Mini Cooper S and during wet weather a dank musty smell comes from the floor. As my car is now out of warranty I have resorted to buying moisture absorbents from the supermarket and placing one or two in the car. This did not stop moisture from coming in, but it eliminated the smell and only cost about $5 each. I have upgraded the car and whether this has contributed to the problem I do not know, but the pads have provided me with a cheap Band-Aid solution. Hope this helps.

IT IS not really a good solution because it's not addressing the cause of the problem. It might not smell but it could be causing rust. You should be looking for displaced seals and that sort of thing to find the leak and fix it properly.
