ON REPORTS of vibrations in the Falcon I thought I'd tell you about the Holden one-tonner I bought in 1978. Being in the tyre game at the time I put fancy wheels and tyres on it, but at 93km/h the tray would vibrate. If I went faster the vibration would disappear, just as it would if I drove at a slower speed. I had the wheels checked and put the standard wheels back on, but it was the same no matter what I did. I changed shocks, the diff, just about everything I could think of without making any difference. Three years later I sold the car and it still wasn't fixed.

7 Aug 2009MANY things can cause vibration. It could be as simple as poor wheel and tyre balance, which tends to show up at about 100km/h, or it could be the tailshaft, which shows up at a lower speed. Before doing anything drastic you need to check everything is within specification: wheel and tyre balance, tailshaft balance and driveline angles. The latter can be critical. If they are out they will cause a significant vibration.
