Toyota Camry 2005: Cloudy paint on rear spoiler
Asked by Len
As a regular reader of the Carsguide, I have noticed quite a number of complaints from owners in relation to paint defects. My black 2005 Toyota Camry Sportivo is developing a clouding effect on the top of the rear spoiler. The paint surface is not breaking down, nor is the clear coat cracking. It seems to remain on/under the paint surface. The car has always been garaged. My dealer has informed me that because it is out of warranty this problem cannot be addressed. I can clearly remember a reader having a paint issue with his Renault whereby Renault Australia offered to cover half the cost of repainting his car, yet Toyota won't even look at my car. What do you think?

16 Aug 2013It is likely to be a problem with the clear coat, but you need to consult a paint specialist to determine the exact cause of the problem. It's quite common with cars of that vintage. I'm not surprised that Toyota is refusing to come to the party; your car is eight years old. If you want, you could approach Toyota directly and request they help with the cost of repainting the spoiler, or you could save a lot of heartache and distress and get it repainted yourself.
