Toyota RAV4 2012: Cruiser loosing power
Asked by Liz Hollaway
My dad's 2012 Toyota RAV4 Cruiser has twice been back to the dealer to investigate why it slows while driving along normally, but he has been told there is nothing wrong with it. Typically when it happens the tachometer drops from anywhere between 2000 and 4000 rpm to 1000 rpm. Dad has mentioned it is now happening in the main street when he has his foot on the accelerator. My father knows when something in any vehicle isn't quite right, so it's not his imagination, but because of Toyota's lack of interest in trying to find and or fix the issue he is becoming increasingly worried and the car problem is starting to keep him awake at night. He feels he has nowhere else to go to try and have this resolved. Hope you can help.

5 Jul 2013This does seem to be one of those issues that plague today's cars, one that can't easily be solved, and doesn't necessarily show up at the dealership. The only way it will be solved is to press your father's case with the dealer and Toyota directly. It would seem that your father's concerns are justified and the problem needs to be fixed. It could be a faulty electronic sensor or connection that's sending the wrong signal to the car's computer, but the dealer is the one responsible for sorting it out, so head back there.
