Turning on ignition while car is running

Asked by Matt

Recently, I accidentally turned on the ignition on my 2013 Toyota Corolla Ascent Sport hatchback while it was running. It was only for one or two seconds and it did not make any grinding noise, but I'm worried that it may have caused some damage. Am I worrying over nothing as I have read from somewhere that the new Corollas have automatic starter management to prevent the starter from being engaged. Is this true?

Yes, you won't have caused any damage, the starter won't have engaged.
