I have a 2013 Volkswagen Passat 7-speed. Under warranty I have had the mechatronics replaced and an engine rebuild, now a gearbox failure at 110 km/h on freeway and pushed off road. Very close call. VW will not give me a report of damage only to say there is gearbox failure. I’m concerned the car is not safe. All I have been offered is 24-month warranty or $6500 trade-in. As I cannot get a report is there a chance of other components being damaged in failure?

23 Aug 2019There is little chance of anything else being damaged as a result of the transmission failure. I understand your concern about the safety of the car given your experience when the transmission failed and left you in a precarious situation, but the chances of it happening again are pretty slim now it has been repaired.
